The one-year long HNC in Art Practice will allow you to explore your artistic practice through a broad diagnostic introduction to contemporary art. For example, painting, printmaking, sculpture or in an interdisciplinary way. In addition, you will develop methodologies for idea generation within an art context. The course will also introduce you to the philosophy and sociology of art. Art theory and contextual studies are delivered alongside your practical artwork.<br/><br/>The course is run by art practitioners and they put an emphasis on professional practice through live projects and by enabling you to submit work to national art competitions, for example the Jerwood Drawing Prize.<br/><br/>From the HNC course you can progress onto our Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Art and Design (Arts Practice).<br/><br/>The one-year HND programme in Art Practice is a follow on from the HNC course and will allow you to explore your arts practice with an emphasis on developing a personal visual language in paint, drawing, sculpture or interdisciplinary approach to making art. In addition you will develop methodologies for idea generation within an art context. The course will also introduce you to the philosophy and sociology of art. Art theory and contextual studies are delivered alongside your practical work. There is an emphasis on professional practice through live projects. This is a well-recognised course for the quality of teaching, collaborations and exhibitions. Our students also show their art work at the end of year exhibitions and get the opportunity to visit galleries at home and abroad in places such as Berlin, Amsterdam or New York.<br/><br/>The course benefits from a guest speaker programme and students also have the opportunity to travel abroad on cultural visits, for example, Berlin or Amsterdam or New York.<br/><br/>On successful completion of the HND you will have the option to top up the qualification to a full Bachelor’s degree at university or enter employment.
