Data Intelligence Course with Placement MSc

The Big Data revolution needs data professionals to assist in data intelligence through automated data management, analysis and presentation in industry and public sector, as the increase in demand is 160% (Blau, 2015; Columbus, 2017). <br/>Typically computing courses in the UK don’t address industries and public sectors’ need for data professionals to manage data for public good. There is an increase in demand for graduates with interdisciplinary skills and abilities, social science humanities, mathematical, information science, systems science, psychology and economics.<br/>This course will provide you with the opportunity to build upon your degree learning and further develop your interdisciplinary skills. You will learn how to lead on, manage, use and harness technology to extract, analyse, and visualise data. In particular, how to make good use of the large quantities of Data in Action to the benefit of commerce, environment and society. You will develop your learning, how to apply and analyse statistics and probability, artificial intelligence, machine learning, pattern recognition, uncertainty modelling, visual processing, meta cognitive and linguistic processing to support Data in Action.<br/><br/>The MSc Data Intelligence with Placement option will provide you with the opportunity to put these skills in to practice, giving you the opportunity to engage in work related experience to complement your studies.<br/>The MSc Data Intelligence with Placement offers the opportunity to gain professional work experience to complement your academic studies. This option will introduce you to professional practice through workplace learning, enhancing both your personal development and future employability.<br/><br/>The placement can be either paid or unpaid, and is identified either by you or via the course team. All placements must be approved by the course team before they commence. The placement module will provide guidance on preparing, identifying and applying for placements/internships before the placement is undertaken during Trimester 3.<br/>Student Route visa students’ placements will require a minimum of 384 hours to a maximum of 480 hours throughout the Trimester (normally 32-40 hours over 12 weeks) to ensure visa compliance. All other students will require a minimum of 240 hours to a maximum 480 hours throughout the Trimester (normally 20-40 hours over 12 weeks). The weekly schedule and location are flexible in accordance with the student’s personal circumstances and the needs of the employer (External or Internal to University).<br/>On completion of the placement you will return to University for a further Trimester to undertake your final modules.
