You’ll specialise in creative writing or contemporary literature.**<br/><br/>These two pathways bring together creative and critical approaches to literature in new and imaginative ways. You’ll examine current developments and critical issues on a course that provides an international and cross-cultural outlook. <br/><br/>Taught by a team with an international reputation for their research in diverse areas, ranging from Caribbean culture to crime novels to apocalyptic fictions, this course will expose you to new ideas and will encourage you to question them. Across both shared and specialist modules and in undertaking a major project you’ll develop skills of critical sophistication and argumentation and independence-of-mind, project development, and reflection. <br/><br/>**Contemporary Literature Pathway**<br/>Specialise in researching contemporary literature. On this pathway, you’ll:<br/><br/><br/>- Be introduced to a range of recent literary texts in English <br/><br/><br/>- Develop an advanced, critical understanding of recent debates on the contemporary creative process<br/><br/><br/>- Be encouraged by expert tutors to develop your skills in close reading, creating and delivering presentations and formal discussions<br/><br/><br/>- Explore how contemporary literary studies is a creative process<br/><br/><br/>- Specialise in topics at the cutting edge of the discipline <br/><br/><br/>- Your independent project will enable you to experience the process of defining your own area of investigation and conducting in-depth research and writing.<br/><br/><br/>**Creative Writing Pathway**<br/>Study creative writing at an advanced level. On this pathway, you’ll: <br/><br/><br/>- Focus on developing expertise in the writing process from the outset<br/><br/><br/>- Enhance your writing practice through studying texts and theories<br/><br/><br/>- Explore how knowledge of contemporary literary studies can enhance your creativity and direct your creative practice in areas of interest <br/><br/><br/>- Learn from prize-winning published authors and poets, who will support you in developing transferable skills in textual analysis, creating and delivering presentations and discussion <br/><br/><br/>Assessments will enable you to establish your creative voice and ability to write for different audiences. You’ll be supported by your tutor throughout the independent project module as you pursue your own creative writing project.
