Newman University is a single campus university based in South West Birmingham that was founded in 1968 and is one of five universities in Birmingham.
We have three schools within the University: a School of Education, School of Human Sciences and a Research School.
Originally founded as a teacher training college in the 60’s, Newman University has an enviable reputation for its Initial Teacher Education programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our experienced tutors and good relationships with schools throughout the West Midlands ensure high quality education. In addition to teacher training the School of Education offers Early Childhood Education and Care single honours and Education Studies joint honours courses.
The School of Human Sciences offers undergraduate courses in Accounting; Business; Criminology; Drama; Economics; English; Health and Social Care; History; International Social Work; Marketing; Mathematics; Psychology and Counselling; Sport; Theology; Working with Children, Young People and Families; Youth and Community Work.
Every undergraduate degree at Newman University involves a compulsory work placement. This is usually carried out in the 2nd year of the degree and is a key factor in the high employment rate of our graduates.
Academic Achievement Scholarships of £10,000 are available to A level students who achieve at least BBB/ABC in one year at A2. These are awarded over the duration of the course to full-time undergraduate students who have selected Newman as their conditional firm or unconditional firm choice. T&Cs apply.
