Civil Engineering is concerned with the planning, design, construction, sustainability, management and maintenance of infrastructure. Fields of activity include structures, transportation, foundations and water engineering. Civil engineers require technical skills and are concerned with management and the protection of the environment. Civil Engineering was one of the founding degrees at Queens, making it one of the oldest in the UK and Ireland. Staff lead high-quality research and are recognised for their excellence in teaching.

Including A-level Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Technology & Design, Geography, Computer Science, ICT (Not Applied) or Double Award Health Sciences. A maximum of one BTEC/OCR Single Award will be accepted as part of an applicant's portfolio of qualifications with a Distinction* being equated to a grade A at A-level and a Distinction being equated to a grade B at A-level. A-level General Studies and Critical Thinking are normally excluded from offers. However, the grade achieved may be taken into account when results are published in August and may be used in a tie-break situation.

Successful completion of a relevant Access to HE Diploma with a minimum of 60 credits is required, including 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 credits at Level 2. Including a minimum of 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction grade in Mathematics and 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction grade in Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Geography/Computer Science/ICT.

Successful completion of IB Diploma Programme with 33 points overall including 6,5,5 at Higher Level including Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Computer Science or ICT.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Successful completion of a relevant National Extended Diploma (1080 Guided Learning Hours (GLHs) at Level 3) with overall grades D*DD. Distinctions will be required in four specified units, including Engineering Principles and Further Engineering Mathematics. Two other units will be specified at Distinction.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

H3,H3,H3,H3,H3,H3

H3H3 Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Computer Science/ICT + H3H3H3H3. If English is not offered at Higher Level minimum grade 04 required at Ordinary Level. Joint Physics and Chemistry Higher Level is acceptable.

Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF)

Successful completion of a relevant Extended Diploma (180 credits at Level 3) with overall grades D*DD. Distinctions will be required in four specified units (40 credits), including Mathematics for Technicians and Further Mathematics for Technicians. Two other units will be specified at Distinction.

Scottish Advanced Higher

A,B,B

Including Advanced Highers in Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Computer Science or ICT. Offers are normally made on the basis of a combination of the two Advanced Highers and two Highers.
