The University of Chichester has provided education in the city of Chichester since 1839, and Bognor Regis since in 1946. Both of our beautiful campuses blend together historic and state-of-the-art buildings to create a sense of community that we encourage.
We were named 10th out of 122 universities for best student experience in the 2018 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey. Students also voted the University in the top two in the categories of good personal relationships with teaching staff, fourth for good environment on campus, and fifth for tuition in small groups.
People really matter here. With a student body of 5,540 split across 13 departments, the level of care given by academic staff, often on a 1:1 basis, is what makes a student’s time so enjoyable.
This long history supports our confidence in educating students, and the Silver Teaching Excellence Framework Award we achieved in 2017 demonstrates Government recognition of the quality of the education we offer.
We have a strong alumni community of over 40,000 graduates, including Antony Pothecary aka Alfie Ordinary (Drag Prince and award winning international performer), Vic Goddard (Principal of Passmore Academy which appeared in Channel 4’s Educating Essex) and Emma Wiggs (Paralympic gold medal winner and six-times World Champion paracanoeist).
Teaching at the University of Chichester is informed and influenced by the research, professional practice, innovation and enterprise activity undertaken by our staff. In the most recent government assessment of University research, the Research Excellence Framework (REF), 90% of our research was rated as nationally leading with 15% being classified as world leading.
This research is facilitated by Professors and Readers across all departments who are each leading experts in their field. Each year students are able to work alongside lectures to contribute to, and conduct, world-leading research.
