The University of Central Lancashire (‘UCLan‘) has established a first-class reputation for the quality of its teaching, technology transfer, business leadership advice and its ‘real world’ practical research. It was founded in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge. The university’s motto ‘Ex solo ad solem’ translates to ‘From the Earth to the Sun‘ and hasn’t changed.
We have over 35,000 students studying with us either on- or off-campus in schools that are recognised both nationally and internationally for their quality of provision.
Recognised in the 2010 QS World Rankings, it was the first Modern University in the UK to gain this status. The university’s initiatives are helping to change lives around the world, and has 11 areas of research judged ‘world leading’ in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.
With over 500 undergraduate and more than 200 postgraduate courses, UCLan has been at the forefront of developing degrees in Journalism, Fashion, Sports Science and Forensics, with the range of excellence extending to Architecture, astrophysics, Pharmacy and the first new School of Dentistry to be launched in the UK in more than a century. The university has a dedicated student support service and was warded the accolade by ‘Times Higher Top Modern University for Student Experience 2010‘.
