An EntD is a type of PhD, the highest academic award for which a student can be registered. <br/><br/>Like a PhD, individuals who work towards a EntD pursue a research project built around a substantial piece of work, which has to show evidence of original contribution to knowledge. However, the EntD is designed for students whose emphasis is on the need for research to underpin a new business, social enterprise, or innovative service idea. <br/><br/>A full time EntD is a three year programme of research and the expectation is that the research will be carried out for 5/6 of the period of study with the remaining 1/6 of study time used to develop and action a business plan based upon the research already undertaken. The production of a large-scale piece of written work in the form of a research thesis that should not normally exceed 50,000 words, and the business plan, will be submitted for examination. <br/><br/>Completing an EntD can give you a great sense of personal achievement and help you develop a high level of transferable skills which will be useful in your subsequent career, as well as contributing to the development of knowledge in your chosen field.
