At Brighton our approach to English literature is progressive and contemporary, while celebrating the historical and cultural contexts of writing in all its forms.<br/><br/>This means that while you’ll be looking at topics such as early modern literature, Shakespeare and Victorian sexualities, you’ll also be examining Black British literature and issues such as identity and diversity.<br/><br/>You’ll explore the social and cultural significance of texts, taking a multi-disciplinary, decolonised approach that considers what makes literature relevant in the world now – and making connections with subjects such as philosophy, art history and the media.<br/><br/>We’ll encourage you to expand and discover your literary passions through stimulating module options. You have the chance to explore poetry and drama, novels and short stories, film and TV, comics and graphic novels, gaming, visual art and social media.<br/><br/>You’ll graduate with skills such as the ability to analyse and evaluate, to project plan and organise, and to present your ideas. We also offer the chance to take placements, volunteer and work on live briefs.
