**Why Biomedical Science (with placement)?**<br/>Biomedical Science is at the forefront of pioneering advances in medicine. In our leading-edge laboratory facilities set in the heart of our historic campus, you’ll explore this vibrant field, joining our Biosciences group – ranked 1st nationally for student experience by the Guardian and The Times University League Tables 2022.<br/><br/>Designed in collaboration with NHS clinical laboratories and accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), the course will take you through a series of health laboratory challenges led by both academic and NHS staff, training you in the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention of disease. With a focus on practical exploration and assessment, these exercises will build your capability and confidence to undertake your own laboratory research.<br/><br/>You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your skills and employability through work-based modules, ranging from short internships to year-long placements. <br/><br/>You’ll finish the course well-prepared to graduate to a career in biomedical research or healthcare services, or to progress to professional training in medicine, dentistry, nursing or teaching.<br/><br/>On this 4-year degree, you will spend Year 3 on placement, gaining a significant competitive edge of experience, networking with potential employers and gaining academic credit towards your degree, all at the same time.
