From climate change and resource depletion to environmental degradation, our Sustainability and Environmental Management MSci equips you with the skills and expertise to tackle the environmental challenges of the 21st century with confidence. Combining cutting-edge topics with master’s-level research, laboratory, and computational techniques, the course offers a strong blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Your first year provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the discipline. You will explore Earth's scientific processes and key environmental issues while developing the core skills required of sustainability and environmental scientists. This foundation prepares you for more advanced study and practical application in later years. From there, you will progress to a more in-depth and critical exploration of key issues, using spatial data to analyse and address complex environmental and socio-economic challenges. You will apply your learning through a residential field course and by completing an environmental and sustainability impact assessment on Keele campus.
By your third year, you will have greater flexibility to specialise in areas that interest you, alongside undertaking an independent research project and a consultancy project, where you will develop strategies for sustainable solutions within a chosen sector. The fourth year of the MSci is designed to enhance your employability while deepening your subject-specific knowledge through the development of advanced problem-solving, communication, and project management skills. You will also further develop your research abilities, particularly in critically evaluating scientific literature and in designing and carrying out an independent research project. Alongside this, you will explore a range of advanced research topics.
