The MArch in Architectural Studies programme is research and project driven with a multi-disciplinary input in the areas of seven specialist pathways. Throughout the course, students are supported to become independent thinkers, through the use of critical self-reflection and peer collaboration, both of which we see as central components to the learning experience. We aim to help our students identify their role as architectural thinkers, designers and makers within wider society. Students develop an Individual Research Project which is cultivated in three parts across the year through a series of core lectures and seminars, and balanced by focused reading of key literature related to their chosen pathway. Students will also have the opportunity to work outside their chosen pathway which enables students on the programme to gain a diverse perspective on areas of research and provides ground for shared discourse. Through rigorous research and investigation, we encourage our students to communicate through design, creating an architectural response to the ethical challenges facing the contemporary world. To compliment the individual research project students will also complete two electives. This includes the Core Research Elective and the GSA Elective which allows students to elect an area of interest from a large portfolio of courses delivered by all schools within GSA. All GSA degree programmes are validated by the University of Glasgow.
