As more businesses invest in digital transformation, public sector and central government services are accessed digitally ‘by default’, e-retail outgrows physical high street sales, and a multiplicity of digital services and experiences – for entertainment, sociality and wellbeing – are used by the majority of the population on a daily basis, the need for digital User Experience (UX) specialists will only continue to grow.

MA User Experience Design introduces you to the necessary core principles of UX Design through lectures, seminars and hands-on studio projects, therefore no prior knowledge of UX Design is required. You will participate in a co-creation module that challenges you to harness your creative, collaborative and critical skills in articulating issues around sustainability. Further UX modules acquaint you with critical understanding of the professional and societal contexts in which UX Designs are developed and deployed and core UX methods and practices required for understanding and designing for different potential ‘users’. These modules will enable you to identify a research problem and/or designed product on which to focus your major independent project in Designing the Transformed User Experience and apply your prior learning to a UX Design research or portfolio project developed under supervision.

The programme aims to not only transform your thinking, enabling you to critically contribute to your chosen profession in or beyond UX Design, but also help shape its future through ethical awareness, sensitivity to the heterogeneity of user needs, and cultural appreciation of the contexts in which UX Design is developed and encountered.

Features and Benefits
• You will become an integral part of SODA - home to a vibrant creative community of research active staff with expertise in diverse fields of practice such as UX, Filmmaking, Photography, Games Art and Sound Design.

• You will have access to facilities such as the Virtual Reality studio and UX Labs.

• You will have the opportunity to develop your professional networks and experience thanks to our links with national and international educational partners, research communities and the creative and digital sectors.

• By joining SODA at Manchester Met, you will become a part of the University’s dynamic research community within a city at the centre of the UK that is one of the fastest-growing tech clusters in Europe with a vibrant arts scene and cultural sector.
