Our Climate & Environmental Science (MSc) provides multidisciplinary knowledge and expertise on the complex and challenging climate-related and environmental issues facing communities across the globe. We focus on the dynamics and interactions between the Earth’s surface, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Students organise their studies along a pathway based on their interests: climate, risk and response; developing in-depth and critical understanding of contemporary global issues related to climate system interactions; and biogeochemical interactions in organic and inorganic systems. Students will be trained in cutting-edge analytical equipment, computational methods and advanced field techniques. The programme is ideal for those keen to pursue a professional career or research in the study of climate-related and environmental challenges.

Why this programme

• Evaluate contemporary environmental and climate-related issues.

• Learn from leading researchers through a diverse range of teaching modes and environments.

• This programme offers a compulsory work-placement that will expose you to scenarios where you must understand and communicate complex information, deal with change, handle relationships, manage projects, and work with vulnerable communities

• Engage with current sustainability challenges

• Work collaboratively with local or international partners

• Develop key applied skills through research-intensive training

• Demonstrate attainment via innovative assessments

Programme structure
Modes of delivery of the Climate & Environmental Science MSc include:

- seminars

- lectures

- tutorials

- fieldwork

- work placements

- independent projects

- computer lab work

- teamwork

• UK field trips

Core modules
• Global Challenges 1: Living in a Changing Climate

• Theoretical and Applied Climatology

• Graduate Futures Work Placement

• GES MSc Project

• Academic and Professional Skills for GES PGT

Optional modules
• Global Challenges 2: Human-environment Lifecyles

• Principles of GIS

• Monitoring Water Environments

• Managing Sustainable Water Environments: Policy and Practice

• Ecology and Restoration of Water Environments

• Introduction to Statistics for Environmental Analysis

• Remote Sensing of the Environment

• Modelling Water Environments

• Topographic Modelling and Landscape Monitoring

• Climates: Past and Future

• Geo-Environmental Policy and Planning for Sustainable Futures

Programme alteration or discontinuation
The University of Glasgow endeavours to run all programmes as advertised.
