Sustainable Tourism & Global Challenges MSc

This programme will give you a strong understanding of sustainable tourism. You will develop an awareness of the cultural and environmental issues influenced by tourism and be able to apply critical and practical solutions.<br/><br/><strong>WHY THIS PROGRAMME</strong><br/>• You will evaluate sustainable tourism as a response to local and global challenges experienced within and beyond the tourism industry.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Discover policies and practices for the management of sustainable tourism and how these can be used to address environmental and cultural issues.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• You will be equipped with intellectual and research skills that will enable you to assess complex, real-world problems and develop innovative solutions.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• The programme will enhance your appreciation of sustainable leadership approaches and how such approaches can be engaged with in differing cultures and contexts.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• You will be based at a world leading university, located within the Dumfries and Galloway region, an area notable for its natural and cultural resources, including a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, among many other sites of relevance to sustainable tourism.<br/><br/><br/><br/><strong>PROGRAMME STRUCTURE</strong><br/>You will complete six core courses and one optional course, followed by a dissertation (which may include a work placement).<br/><br/>You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials and project work. Specific jobs include policy officers, destination managers and sustainability assessors.<br/><br/>You could also work as a consultant in business, as part of a local, national or international government team and on planning bodies (such as the UNs World Tourism Organization or the World Travel and Tourism Organization). There has also been a recent increase in roles within the third sector, designed to support sustainable transitions within tourism.<br/><br/>In addition, there are jobs available in education, particularly at college and university level. Your degree may enable you to consider studying for a research degree to consolidate your expertise.
