A joint venture between the University of Greater Manchester’s bioscience department and the Greater Manchester Business School, it’s an ideal choice for students who wish to pursue a career in an ever-evolving bioscience field, where business acumen and enterprise are often a desired skillset.<br/><br/>The biotechnology sector is an ever-expanding global market, with the UK being at the forefront as one of the worlds leaders in the field. At the University of Greater Manchester, we aim to provide a programme designed for bioscience graduates, with the ideal blend of biotechnological research and business modules that will adequately prepare anyone who wishes to seek a career in the industry. <br/><br/>Throughout this degree, our experienced team will support you in developing the firm understanding and practical know-how vital to your future career in biotechnology. We will focus on equipping you with sector-specific, hands-on practical experience, coupled with an invaluable grounding in business and leadership theory led by our colleagues at the Greater Manchester Business School.<br/><br/>Our dedicated and supportive biosciences team will lead you through modules such as Introduction to Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Genomics, and Medical Biotechnology. In each of these modules, we offer in-depth practical sessions in our high-spec teaching laboratories where you can gain experience using a wide variety of relevant biomedical instrumentation. In addition, two business modules (Leadership and Management, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship) will be taught at the Greater Manchester Business School. Youll also have the opportunity to carry out a 12-week laboratory project under the guidance of our qualified academic staff, which will be planned and developed as part of the Scholarship and Research Skills module in semester 2. <br/><br/>As well as offering an in-depth education in biotechnology and a grounding in business, the course promotes transferable and employability skills that employers demand. The programme will support and challenge you to develop strong communication and problem-solving skills, quantitative and scientific reasoning, independence, confidence and resilience, and the ability to collaborate with others as part of a team. Overall, we aim to ensure you graduate with the skills and knowledge needed for a rewarding career in biotechnology and related fields such as medical technology, biomedical technology, the pharmaceutical industry, and beyond.
