Music and Data Science MA

In an era in which data permeates every facet of our lives, it has become evident that the intersection of music and data science offers exciting possibilities. This course aims to equip students with the skills to navigate this dynamic landscape. By blending artistic expression and subject specific musical knowledge with data science, the programme aims to bridge the gap between creativity and technology. This innovative interdisciplinary course combines advanced study in both music and computing and is aimed at those wishing to develop a unique skillset that combines musical knowledge with data science expertise. Students will benefit from engagement with the School Music, the School of Computer Science and the Business School, thereby providing valuable experience of different disciplinary approaches. Students take core modules in data science and programming, providing a strong foundation in key topics like data mining, machine learning, and data analytics. This is complemented by music modules, with core study of music in historical context along with a choice of optional modules in topics such as the recording industry, music business, and digital marketing for musicians. Students will complete a Music and Data Science Project integrating their learnings from both disciplines.
