Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics (MORSE) is a broad, business-oriented mathematics degree. It's ideal if you're thinking of a career as a professional mathematician, researcher, statistician or economist.
Our 3-year programme will give you a foundation in the main areas of mathematics, including, algebra, calculus and differential equations while operational research modules will show you how to use maths to model and solve practical problems and statistics modules explain how to analyse uncertain data. Alongside this with economics modules you’ll learn how to create models of the complex interactions in an economic system.
This course will develop your abilities in:

As part of this course you can:
• Choose from a range of optional modules to follow your interests
• Discover a range of mathematical techniques, such as graphical networks, cost models, decision processes and statistical modelling
• Solve real-world problems using mathematics and other skills
• Use our student centre, a dedicated learning and social space, exclusively for maths students
• Explore mathematical and computational packages such as Python and the statistics package 'R'
We'll teach you through a combination of lectures and workshops. Our staff are leading researchers in fields like game theory, healthcare modelling and experiment design.

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4
Access to HE Diploma
Typical offer: 60 credits with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3, all of which must be at Distinction Mathematics must be studied to level 3, A-level standard to be considered
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Typical offer: Pass, with 36 points overall with 18 points at Higher Level, including grade 6 in ‘Analysis and Approaches’ or ‘Applications and Interpretation’. (However, ‘Analysis and Approaches’ is preferred) International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP): Offers will be made on the individual Diploma Course subject(s) and the career-related study qualification. The CP core will not form part of the offer. Where there is a subject pre-requisite(s), applicants will be required to study the subject(s) at Higher Level in the Diploma course subject and/or take a specified unit in the career-related study qualification. Applicants may also be asked to achieve a specific grade in those elements.
