Study French or Spanish on this Modern Languages degree - explore the history, arts and culture of countries where those languages are spoken, and spend one or two years abroad.

At the same time, you can also explore historical and cultural aspects relating to your chosen language and the communities that speak it, such as film, contemporary issues or politics.<br/><br/>The year abroad is fantastic preparation for today’s multilingual, multicultural world of work. You can add a second year abroad via the ‘International Experience’ option. Using your language skills in real-life situations not only increases your proficiency, but also boosts your confidence, independence and resilience. You’ll graduate with transferrable skills in communication, translation, presentation, problem solving, research, analysis, teamworking, adaptability, resilience, and people.<br/><br/>Widely recognised as one of the most effective ways to learn a language, you’ll be taught in small groups on this BA (Hons) Modern Languages. This not only facilitates more opportunities for you practise oral, aural and translation skills, but also makes it easier to ask questions and gain feedback.<br/><br/>‘Placement Year’ and International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. Level 3 qualifications can also be considered in conjunction with another qualification in a relevant Modern Language (e.g. grade C at A level or IB Higher). Please note: There is no specific modern language requirement as all of our Modern Languages degrees can be studied from beginner or advanced level. For those seeking to study Chinese, a demonstrable interest, but no prior knowledge required.
Scottish Higher
Minimum of 5 Scottish Highers - some subject specific grades/Advanced Highers may be required.
Access to HE Diploma
Can be considered in conjunction with A level or IB Higher in relevant modern language (no language required for beginner's language route).
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Including grade H5 in relevant modern language. (No modern language required for beginners' route.)

Extended Project
Points can include a relevant Extended Project (EPQ) but must include a minimum 2 full A-levels, or equivalent. Please contact us for more information.

Main route: Relevant Modern Language preferred (e.g. A-level or equivalent); Language-beginners' route: no modern language required. General Studies and Key Skills not normally accepted.
T Level
T Level qualifications are accepted on a case by case basis.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.
