Studying Music and Modern Languages at Bangor will allow you to develop your musicology whilst learning and developing your competence in writing, speaking and comprehension of a modern language.
You will be taught by world-renowned composers, performers and musicologists, who will encourage you to explore the connections between all three fundamental aspects of musical study. Studying Music and Modern Languages at Bangor will allow you to develop your musicology whilst learning and developing your competence in writing, speaking and comprehension of a modern language.<br/><br/>You will be taught by world-renowned composers, performers and musicologists, who will encourage you to explore the connections between all three fundamental aspects of musical study. Our Modern Languages staff have expertise in translation, film, literature, travel writing, performance, visual cultures, popular culture, socio-political change, and transnational cultures.<br/><br/>During the degree you’ll improve your fluency in your chosen language (French, German, Spanish or Chinese) and contextualise your learning by deepening your appreciation of the lifestyle, history, arts and culture of different countries. Your Music studies cover a broad range of historical and stylistic repertories and composers from the Renaissance to the present day. You can also enhance your solo and/or ensemble performance skills. <br/><br/>The compulsory third year abroad is fantastic preparation for today’s multilingual, multicultural world of work. Youll spend a year in a country where your chosen language is spoken consolidating your language learning and increasing your confidence.<br/><br/>‘Placement Year’ and International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. Including grade H5 in Music and grade H5 in relevant modern language. (No modern language required for language-beginners' pathway.)

Extended Project
Points can include a relevant Extended Project (EPQ) but must include a minimum 2 full A-levels, or equivalent. Please contact us for more information.

Including: Grade B in Music. Relevant modern language preferred (no language required for beginner's language route). General Studies and Key Skills not normally accepted.
T Level
T Level qualifications are accepted on a case by case basis.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.
