Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (with Foundation Year) BSc (Hons)

This is a four-year programme that includes a year of foundational study and leads directly into the degree course. Our foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence, before you advance to stage one of your honours degree.<br/><br/>Our Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence degree offers a structured route from core computing principles to advanced applications of artificial intelligence, guiding you through a clear and supportive learning journey that builds knowledge and confidence as you progress.<br/><br/>From your first year, you’ll develop a strong foundation in programming, computational thinking, computer systems, and data analysis, alongside early, hands-on experience with artificial intelligence using Python. As you move through the course, you’ll deepen and extend this knowledge through more specialised study, exploring object-oriented system design, intelligent systems, and key AI concepts.<br/><br/>In the later stages of the course, you’ll bring everything together through a substantial individual development project in an area that interests you, while studying emerging topics such as generative AI, Large Language Models, and multi-agent systems. Throughout the programme, a strong emphasis on learning by doing, real-world application, and ethical and sustainability considerations prepares you for a career in computer science and artificial intelligence, or further study in this rapidly evolving field.<br/><br/>We offer this programme with two study options. You can choose four years full-time or five years full-time which would include a one-year professional placement before your final year that will give you hands-on experience in a real-life working environment. This year in industry would give you the practical skills that many employers seek, giving you a competitive edge upon graduation.
