This is a four-year programme that includes a year of foundational study at our Llandaff campus and leads directly into the degree course, which will be taught at our Cyncoed campus. Our foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence, before you advance to stage one of your honours degree.

This degree in Primary Education Studies at Cardiff Met will prepare you for a career in the broad field of education, including teaching. With a specific focus on the primary sector, you will study educational systems, processes and approaches and learn how experiences in education are affected by social, cultural, economic and political circumstances. You will also develop skills in using different types of technology, learning how to use them effectively in your studies and in work-based contexts.

You are guaranteed two work-based placements where you will gain practical insight into careers within and outside primary education, introducing you to roles in SEN provision, outdoor learning, community and alternative education, early years education and care, and third sector positions. This degree includes opportunities for placement experiences on campus, utilising Cardiff Met’s specialist resource-spaces, Tŷ Froebel and the Outdoor Learning Centre; and a virtual placement provides opportunities for work experience with international schools and organisations.

The course team has strong links with a wide range of schools, settings and organisations through which opportunities to engage in extra-curricular activities alongside your studies are created for you. These take place on campus and within the wider community and include field trips, fundraising activities and involvement in projects. These enrich your university experience, enabling you to deepen your sense of belonging within the Primary Education Studies (PES) community whilst also developing new skills and enhancing your professional profile.

Modules have a strong emphasis on applying theory to practice, with teaching and learning experiences being rooted in the ‘real world’, supporting you towards becoming a creative and adaptable graduate who is knowledgeable, equipped with employability skills, and able to apply the knowledge, skills and experiences gained from your degree as a basis for further study, training or future employment/self-employment.

There are two pathways of study available:

• BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies

• BA (Anrh) Astudiaethau Addysg Gynradd (Dwyieithog) / BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies (Bilingual)
