Course Overview - Engineering Bachelor of Engineering (with Honours) - BEng (Hon)

BEng Engineering is a one year programme designed to act as a route for students who wish to defer making a choice about a specialised engineering discipline. Students select eight courses from two or three engineering disciplines. At the end of Level 1, BEng Engineers transfer to Level 2 of their chosen programme. The aim of this programme is to enable students to sample a range of engineering disciplines before choosing their degree profile.

Entry Requirements

A level

must include Maths and relevant science. Relevant science is Chemistry (Chemistry / Chemical Engineering routes) OR Physics (all other routes).

T Level

We will consider T Levels as suitable for entry to our degree programmes, however, certain subject requirements may be required for entry to specific programmes. Where this is not evident as part of the T Level studies, we may ask for additional qualifications.

Scottish HNC

HNC in a relevant subject (including sufficient Maths and science) with A in graded unit including SQA Engineering Maths 1 and one of Engineering Maths 2 or 3.

Scottish HND

HND in a relevant subject (including sufficient Maths and science) with AB/BA in graded units including SQA Engineering Maths 1 and one of Engineering Maths 2 or 3.

Scottish Higher

including one science (Chemistry or Physics depending on intended route) and Mathematics.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

It is also a requirement of every applicant to have English and Mathematics at a minimum of National 5 Grade C or GCSE Grade C or 4 (or equivalent)

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

with Higher Level 5 in a relevant science (Chemistry or Physics depending on intended route) and Higher Level 5 Mathematics.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

For Year 1 Entry only: must be in Engineering including sufficient Physics and Maths.

Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6)

We accept Foundation Apprenticeships in combination with other qualifications such as SQA Highers and Advanced Highers.

A level

Standard Entry Requirements: must include Maths and relevant science. Relevant science is Chemistry (Chemistry / Chemical Engineering routes) OR Physics (all other routes). Minimum entry requirements: must include Maths AND EITHER Chemistry (Chemistry / Chemical Engineering routes) OR Physics (all other routes), with one at B.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

For Year 1 Entry only: must be in Engineering including sufficient Physics and Maths.

Scottish Higher

Standard Entry Requirements: including one science (Chemistry or Physics depending on intended route) and Mathematics. Minimum entry requirements: must include B in Maths AND EITHER B in Chemistry for Chemistry / Chemical Engineering route OR B in Physics for all other routes. Engineering Science is accepted for in place of Physics for Mechanical Engineering route only.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

with Higher Level 5 in a relevant science (Chemistry or Physics depending on intended route) and Higher Level 5 Mathematics.

Scottish HNC
