You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your studies with fantastic placements.**<br/><br/>Study divisive local, national and international political issues such as migration, populism and environmental change.<br/><br/>As part of this course, you’ll:<br/><br/><br/>- Explore how global development confronts the ethical dilemmas facing the distribution of power and resources<br/><br/><br/>- Examine theories of development, poverty and economic crises and their relevance to the social and political challenges of the 21st century<br/><br/><br/>- Study topics such as the political economy of the global south, understanding development, development in practice, and complete a dissertation<br/><br/><br/>- Examine politics as a human activity with a local, national and global outlook<br/><br/><br/>- Study the ideas, ideologies, policies and institutions that form the foundations of modern politics<br/><br/><br/>- Understand complex policy issues and advocate solutions to problems<br/><br/><br/>- Evaluate the nature and distribution of power systems, processes and institutions of governance<br/><br/><br/>- Analyse different interpretations of political events and issues, synthesising relevant information, exercising critical judgement and constructing reasoned arguments<br/><br/><br/>- Analyse pressing issues facing us today, such as climate change, human rights, migration and the crisis of capitalism<br/><br/><br/>- Explore how the role of the state, international power relations, ethics, and political movements and ideologies such as Marxism have profound implications for the organisation of our society<br/><br/><br/>- Undertake a volunteering placement giving you work experience in the field<br/><br/><br/>- Blend critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills<br/><br/><br/>**Find out more**<br/><br/>**Immersive learning**<br/>With our range of politics events, volunteering options, study abroad opportunities, and guest speakers, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in a rich learning and practical environment that will fully prepare you for the career you choose.<br/><br/>**Building your future potential**<br/>As a student in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, you’ll be encouraged to think about your future career right from the start of your learning journey. Information and advice about relevant future career options will be built into the first year of your degree. During your second and third years of study, you’ll be able to choose modules with live brief learning challenges (real life projects designed by employers) and work placement opportunities.<br/><br/>You’ll undertake a volunteering placement of your choosing as part of our Active Citizenship module, helping those in need - whether its helping refugees learn English, working at a food bank or teaching in a foreign country.<br/><br/>**Hands-on study**<br/>You’ll have the opportunity to design a mock project targeted at a non-government organisation. You’ll practise lobbying your ideas during a test interview, enhancing your employability skills. Previous students have explored ways to limit the problems of globalisation.<br/><br/>**Research expertise**<br/>All of our course team are research-active, working around the world for the development of society. Many carry out government-funded research and help to advise the EU on policy.
