Course Overview - Audio Engineering

The Audio Engineering programme is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in engineering within the audio and digital media industries. Students will gain technical skills and knowledge relevant to the broader field of electrical and electronic engineering including electronics, embedded systems, computer programming and mathematics. Students will also gain practical experience of recording, editing, mixing and mastering music using professional studio facilities and designing new hardware/software musical instruments and interfaces.

Including Mathematics and at least one from Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Digital Technology, Electronics, Further Mathematics, ICT [not Applied ICT], Physics, Software Systems Development, Technology and Design or Double Award Life & Health Sciences. A-level General Studies and Critical Thinking are normally excluded from offers. However, the grade achieved may be taken into account when results are published in August and may be used in a tie-break situation.

Successful completion of a relevant Access to HE Diploma with a minimum of 60 credits is required, including 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 credits at Level 2. Successful completion of IBD with 33 points overall including 6,5,5 at Higher Level including Mathematics and a relevant Science

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Successful completion of RQF BTEC National Extended Diploma (1080 GLH at Level 3) with overall grades D*DD. Applicants must have Distinction grade in Engineering Principles and Further Engineering Mathematics. Two other units will be specified at Distinction.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF)

Successful completion of QCF BTEC Extended Diploma (180 credits at Level 3) with overall grades D*DD. Applicants must have Distinction grade in Mathematics for Technicians and Further Mathematics for Technicians. Two other units will be specified at Distinction.

Scottish Advanced Higher

A,B,B

Including grade B in Mathematics and relevant Science. Offers are normally made on the basis of a combination of Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers.
