Nursing/Registered Nurse: Adult Nursing BSc (Hons)

Start an exciting journey to becoming an adult nurse with the University of Cumbria. <br/><br/>This course is designed to give you the perfect balance of theory and practice needed to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and practise as an adult nurse. <br/><br/>Our academic team are experienced practitioners with a wide range of clinical backgrounds. As well as delivering theoretical teaching based on the latest research and informed by patients’ experiences, they will support you throughout your degree to ensure your student experience is fulfilling and enjoyable. <br/><br/>On campus, you will immerse yourself in our student nurse community and take full advantage of our clinical skills and simulation facilities. These include our simulated ward areas, high-dependency care areas, home spaces, and cutting-edge immersive simulation room. <br/><br/>In addition to your academic study, you will spend equal time on placement within the clinical practice setting, including a wide variety of both inpatient, hospital and community placements throughout Cumbria and Lancashire. Our unique campus locations mean you will gain wide-ranging experience working with diverse patient groups in both rural and city areas.<br/><br/><strong>Course Overview</strong><br/>Our Adult Nursing degree equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and experience needed to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate person-centred care across a variety of healthcare settings. <br/><br/>You’ll study core topics such as biological sciences, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medicine management, communication, health promotion, and evidence-based practice. Alongside this, youll develop a strong understanding of the professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities required of a registered nurse. <br/><br/>Clinical skills are developed both in university and on placement, with equal emphasis placed on theory and hands-on practice. Youll build confidence and competence as you work towards achieving the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) proficiencies through meaningful, real-world experiences. <br/><br/>Students studying at our Lancaster campus may have the opportunity to complete placements closer to home with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust, and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay. <br/><br/><strong>On this course you will...</strong><br/>• Develop and accomplish the knowledge and skills you need to practise and provide evidenced-based and compassionate care as a registered nurse.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Develop skills of assessment, clinical decision making and managing complex care in a variety of settings.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Learn and work alongside all fields of nursing and the multi-disciplinary team whilst on placement, and recognise the contribution of different health professionals roles and expertise.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Develop skills through a range of nursing placements that will be a mixture of hospital and community settings, and through skills teaching and simulated practice.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Prepare you for a future leadership role in nursing practice.<br/><br/><br/><br/><strong>What you will learn</strong><br/><br/>You will spend 50% of the programme on clinical placement being supervised and assessed by practice staff. The theoretical input is delivered by expert teaching staff and is based on the latest evidence and research, using a variety of teaching and learning approaches.<br/><br/>The programme will equip you to deliver safe and effective care to the highest standards and ensure you practice with compassion and confidence. You will be taught to make complex decisions regarding patient care in diverse settings and with different patient groups.
