Job Prospects

Job Prospects

Portsmouth wants to get you career-ready. Our graduate employment rates are some of the UK’s best, with 94% of graduates in work or further study (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020/21). Courses are designed to give you skills employers are looking for, often using simulated working environments and professional equipment. Most courses give the option of a paid placement year to get a taste of working life and build up your CV.

We have great links with employers across a wide range of industries. Many give talks on campus, offering you opportunities to make professional connections. Lots of courses are accredited, approved or recognised by Professional Statutory Regulatory Bodies, certifying you've got specialist knowledge and skills needed for those professions.

Our Careers and Employability Service is free to access from the moment you register with Portsmouth, to five years after you graduate. It offers workshops, online resources, and one-to-ones to help with job seeking and career building.

From watersports to festivals, Portsmouth is an inspiring place to live and study. There’s a wealth of lively music, comedy and theatre venues, great independent and designer shopping options for all budgets, fantastic food from around the world – including traditional seaside fish’n’chips – and amazing options for active living. Social and learning events put on by the Union help students feel part of a community at the University.

The Residence Life team runs a varied social events programme for all new students. And when you want to take a break from it all, you can find safe, supportive spaces like the campus Chaplaincy (for people of all faiths and none) or simply stop and watch the waves as the sun sets on the Solent. There’s nowhere quite like the UK’s only island city – why not come and see for yourself?
