Combine your curiosity about the mind with your passion for sport. On this BPS-accredited degree, you'll explore how psychology helps athletes perform at their best and how the same principles apply to everyday life.
You'll study all the core areas of psychology, including cognition, development, neuroscience and social behaviour, giving you a strong understanding of how people think, feel and act. Alongside this, you'll take dedicated sport psychology modules each year, applying psychological theory to real sporting environments.
You'll explore what drives motivation, how athletes perform under pressure, how teams develop cohesion, and how psychology can support recovery from injury, burnout and performance anxiety. Topics range from memory and mental health to personality, child development and ageing.
If you choose the foundation year, you'll build the academic skills, subject knowledge and confidence needed for degree-level study before progressing onto the BSc. It provides a supportive introduction to university learning and a strong foundation for success throughout your degree.
From your first year, you'll develop practical research skills, from designing experiments and analysing data to evaluating evidence and solving complex problems. As you progress, you'll work more independently, including undertaking a final-year research project in an area that interests you.
You'll learn from expert psychologists, including those who work with elite athletes, and benefit from our links with local professional clubs such as Hull FC, Hull KR and Hull City. Whether you're interested in sport psychology, coaching, sport science or psychology more broadly, you'll graduate with the skills and knowledge to make a real difference in high-performance settings and beyond
