This BA (Hons) Health and Social Care degree focuses on the factors that underpin and directly impact frontline public health services, including health education, health promotion and prevention of diseases, policy planning, implementation and evaluation, how to support vulnerable service users, and change management. It aims to develop the knowledge and skills required to improve the health and wellbeing of culturally diverse individuals and populations.

Blending theory and practice, research-informed teaching is combined with fact-finding visits and examples of real-life experiences in communities, locally and across the globe. You’ll develop a detailed understanding of some of the biggest challenges facing society. From health inequalities and meeting the needs of the most vulnerable citizens, including the elderly, sick and disabled people, to tackling NHS performance and the backlog of physical and mental healthcare.

The health and social care sector continues to grow and change – influenced not just by the fact people are living longer but also the impact of technology, funding issues and resource pressures. As a BA (Hons) Health and Social Care graduate, you will be ideally placed to play a proactive role in improving health and welfare, whatever the future holds.

An alternative to clinical training, the emphasis on this degree is very much on the social experiences of health and care. As well as the NHS, you will learn about different health and welfare systems all over the world and examine the public health issues that affect entire nations, like in wealthy and low-income countries.

‘Placement Year’ and International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch.
