Studying a Modern Language with Philosophy, Ethics and Religion will equip you with knowledge, language and transferable skills valued by employers in a global workplace. You will develop written (e.g. translation) and oral skills and cultural insights related to the chosen language. You will also gain a solid knowledge in a variety of religious, ethical and philosophical traditions - encompassing both analytical and continental philosophy, and religions of Eastern and Western tradition.

Studying a Modern Language with Philosophy, Ethics and Religion will equip you with knowledge, language and transferable skills valued by employers in a global workplace. You will develop written (e.g. translation) and oral skills and cultural insights related to the chosen language. You will also gain a solid knowledge in a variety of religious, ethical and philosophical traditions - encompassing both analytical and continental philosophy, and religions of Eastern and Western tradition.<br/><br/>All language modules include written skills (e.g. translation and essay writing) and oral skills taught by a native speaker.<br/><br/>Optional modules available in modern languages allow you to gain insight into the cinema, literature, history, and culture of the country whose language you are studying.<br/><br/>Philosophy, Ethics and Religion will provide you with a range of complementary perspectives on key ideas that have shaped culture and thought, and how such ideas interrelate with religious thought.<br/><br/>There are also extra-curricular activities that will both boost your subject knowledge and allow you to get to know your fellow students. These include cultural and social events organised by student-run societies.<br/><br/>‘Placement Year’ and International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. Level 3 qualifications can also be considered in conjunction with another qualification in a relevant Modern Language (e.g. A level or IB Higher). No Modern Language required for language-beginners' route. For those seeking to study Chinese, a demonstrable interest, but no prior knowledge required.

Minimum of 5 Scottish Highers - some subject specific grades/Advanced Highers may be required.
Access to HE Diploma
Can be considered in conjunction with A level or IB Higher in relevant modern language.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Including grade H5 in relevant modern language. (No modern language required for language-beginners' pathway.)

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.
