The BA (Hons) Contemporary Vocal Performance degree at City St. George’s, University of London, offers a future-focused curriculum in the heart of central London. The degree will equip you with specialist skills as a vocal performer backed by an academic grounding in critical and contextual music studies.
You will have access to outstanding performance and recording facilities with multiple creative/performance opportunities as part of an established Performing Arts community that values collaboration and nurtures individuality. Individual vocal tuition, delivered by expert staff from both Urdang and the Music faculty, forms a central part of your studies, supporting your technical and artistic development throughout the course. Practice-based learning is underpinned by the academic study of music, delivered to you by lecturers who are internationally recognised as music researchers. This is the degree for you if you are aiming for an ambitious career in the ever-evolving music industries. You will benefit from one-to-one individualised performance tuition while also gaining experience performing in small groups and recording sessions. Academic modules introduce you to a broad range of musical styles/genres and provide you with key critical and analytical skills, while elective modules allow you to develop specialism in areas including songwriting, composition, and popular music studies. Employability-focussed modules such as The Music Business and Freelancing & Entrepreneurship will set you up with the knowledge and skills to succeed as a music professional.
