The degree with foundation year is only available for the BEng option.<br/><br/><strong>Foundation Year</strong><br/>This foundation year aims to provide you with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed in mathematics, as well as the theories and concepts of electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering.<br/><br/><strong>Degree</strong><br/>Motorsport engineers are involved in every aspect of vehicle design, manufacture and testing. This course is designed to give you a grounding in these areas and other facets of automotive engineering, supported by a strong foundation in core engineering principles. <br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Industry-aligned learning: </strong>live projects, Formula Student and collaborations with motorsport teams develop practical expertise in aerodynamics, materials and vehicle systems. <br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Design to manufacturing and beyond</strong>: ideal for aspiring motorsport engineers seeking hands-on experience in high-performance vehicle design, testing and innovation. <br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Career versatility:</strong> combines motorsport specialisation with mechanical engineering fundamentals, opening doors to automotive, R&D and performance engineering roles. <br/><br/><br/><strong>Why you should study this course</strong> <br/><br/><strong>Foundation year</strong><br/>• Supports you to gain the academic skills required for degree-level study.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Provides a grounding in key areas of engineering and mathematics.<br/><br/><br/><br/><strong>Degree</strong><br/><strong>Industry-ready skills through live projects</strong> <br/>Gain hands-on experience with real-world motorsport challenges, including the IMechE Formula Student competition, where you’ll design, build and test a race car under professional constraints. Competing against university teams from the UK and internationally. <br/><br/><strong>Race Ready facilities and software</strong> <br/>Train in our Mercedes-AMG wind tunnel, 6DoF driving simulator, engine/chassis dynamometers, VR Power Wall, Rapid Prototyping facility and composites labs to build and test vehicles mirroring professional motorsport engineers.<br/><br/><strong>Optional industrial placements and global experiences</strong> <br/>Boost employability with a year in industry or study abroad, supported by our award-winning placements team. Past students have worked with race teams and automotive firms. Strong industry links boost placement and graduate opportunities.<br/><br/><strong>Networking and industry exposure</strong> <br/>Attend guest lectures (subject to availability), field trips (previous trips include Ford F150 factory, Professional Motorsport World Expo) and events like Autosport International.
