The foundation year aims to prepare you for degree-level study and is a great way to build the confidence, skills and knowledge needed to succeed on your degree course.</strong><br/><br/>The foundation year course offers an introduction to your chosen subject and helps you develop the necessary skills for degree-level study. In addition, you will also explore key skills such as research methods, scientific fundamentals and promotion techniques.<br/><br/>The foundation year of this Coventry University degree will be delivered from our CU Coventry campus. Course delivery from year 1 of the degree onwards will be from the Coventry University campus.<br/><br/><strong>Learn to assess and treat sports injuries by combining exercise physiology with rehabilitation, and develop practical skills through hands-on experience in our on-campus sports therapy clinic.</strong><br/><br/>Develop the skills and confidence to become an independent sports therapy practitioner, equipped to work in healthcare, sport or private practice. Learn how to support a wide range of clients, from children to older adults, and from beginners to elite athletes.<br/><br/><br/>• Injury prevention and athlete welfare: become proficient in designing, implementing and evaluating injury prevention programmes.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Clinical examination and assessment: develop knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and pathology to assess musculoskeletal conditions, diagnose injuries and determine treatment pathways.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation: gain hands-on experience in manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for effective injury management.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Emergency and acute care: develop the skills needed for pre-hospital emergency care, including trauma assessment, concussion management and emergency action planning.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Why you should study this course<br/>• Study in our multi-million-pound Alison Gingell building with a specialist sports therapy suite, physiology and biomechanics laboratories and industry-standard equipment.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Our dedicated lecturers bring experience from working with international, national and local athletes, and within successful private practices. They are committed to support your development as a future sports and exercise therapist (staff subject to change).<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Previous students have provided support at the World and British Transplant Games and have worked with a variety of elite sports teams including Birmingham City FC, Coventry City Football Club and Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Team.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Graduates of this course go on to pursue careers in areas such as elite sports teams, rehabilitation, healthcare and research. This course is designed to help you prepare for opportunities across the sports therapy and health industries.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• This course aims to build a strong base in key scientific disciplines such as anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology.
