Exciting developments in computer science and artificial intelligence are transforming society, from neural networks and new medical diagnostic tools to self‑driving cars. Studying Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at Keele will give you the opportunity to explore technologies and solutions for a rapidly changing digital economy.\
\
Initial modules will provide the mathematical foundations essential for AI, while introducing the principles, structures and algorithms that underpin modern intelligent systems. Building core programming skills in Python and expertise in web technologies, databases and computer hardware, you will develop a human-centred approach to software development.\
\
As you progress, advanced study in AI will develop your practical expertise in data science, machine learning, data ethics and governance. You'll also focus on modern techniques such as deep learning and generative AI applied to text analysis, computer vision and pattern recognition. We'll also prepare you to develop a robust understanding of both legal and ethical challenges and the potential impact of AI on society. In your final year, you will complete an independent AI project with the option to collaborate with industry. This is your chance to put your skills into practice, develop innovative solutions and showcase what you can do.\
\
Throughout the programme, you will benefit from a variety of teaching and learning activities informed by and involving our partners from industry. This includes a series of guest lectures from organisations such as Microsoft, the BBC, and CapGemini, as well as grouped and individual projects potentially involving real-world data from industry.\
\
From dedicated professional development sessions and industry guest lectures to tailored careers support, employability is embedded throughout your studies. The programme also includes the option to enhance your experience through either a flexible-short or year-long industry placement. Alternatively, if you’re interested in teaching, a specialist option offers experience in educational settings.
