Civil engineers design, construct, maintain, upgrade, rehabilitate and repair major infrastructures used by humans while protecting the natural environment. The industry plays a key role in designing a framework that can help tackle the climate change emergency. <br/><br/>This integrated master’s course provides the ideal platform to gain broad-based technical experience. The knowledge you develop will enable you to enter design, construction or operations roles within the civil engineering industry.<br/><br/>As part of this course, you’ll:<br/>- Equip yourself with the problem-solving skills to work on projects such as designing large structures and infrastructure including roads, water supply and drainage, bridges, airports, tunnels, and sea and flood defences <br/><br/><br/>- Study an advanced technical programme that will give you the knowledge and skills to contribute effectively in a variety of industry settings<br/><br/><br/>- Be introduced to contemporary research and engineering solutions to meet global challenges, such as the climate change emergency<br/><br/><br/>- Be taught by staff with a broad range of industry experience in subjects including structural engineering, water engineering, geotechnical engineering, project management and highways engineering<br/><br/><br/>- Take part in practical work and laboratory study using industry standard facilities and IT design software<br/><br/><br/>- Secure work placements during the summer and plan an optional paid placement year in industry with the help of your course team.<br/><br/><br/>**Find out more**<br/><br/>**Hands-on learning**<br/>You’ll learn using a variety of tools, including case studies and design-based exercises that will enable you to develop applied skills, participate in critical analysis and practise your presentation skills.<br/><br/>**Specialist facilities**<br/>Our modern, well-equipped laboratories will give you the chance to get hands-on with industry-standard tools and testing.
