Criminology and Law (with Foundation Year) Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) - BA (Hons)

This is a four year degree taught at our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.

Crime and how to deal with it are amongst the most significant and contentious issues of our time, so it is vital that we understand this subject. Criminology is the study of crime, its causes and effects, and what we do about it. At Liverpool Hope University, you will study how crime is defined and who defines it, why some people commit offences, and what happens to those who commit crimes if they are caught.

Criminology is taught by staff with considerable experience at national and international level. The Criminology team is enthusiastic and will help you to get the most out of your degree. Criminology is heavily focused on justice - how it is delivered, to whom, by whom and whether or not it is effective. This reflects Liverpool Hope’s commitment to social justice both nationally and internationally.

Law\
You’ll develop a strong understanding of legal principles while exploring how law connects to society and other disciplines in a practical and exciting way. The course gives you the freedom to follow your interests through optional modules in areas like business law, international law and human rights law. You’ll experience hands-on, practice-focused learning including mooting competitions and the Hope Law Clinic, where you can gain real client experience by providing supervised legal advice to members of the public.

The Moot Courtroom also helps you build confidence in advocacy and courtroom skills. With small-group teaching delivered by qualified solicitors and research-active academics, you’ll receive plenty of personal support and individual attention. This flexible degree builds excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills that are highly valued across many careers. Combined Honours graduates can still qualify as solicitors via the SQE route without needing a conversion course.
