Our program is designed to train the next generation of biomedical engineers, ready to innovate and excel in this exciting industry.

**More about this course**
Biomedical engineering is one of the fastest-growing fields in the UK, driven by the increasing reliance on complex engineering systems in modern healthcare. Biomedical engineers, also known as bioengineers, medical engineers, clinical engineers, medical technologists, design engineers, or medical scientists, play a crucial role in healthcare settings. They are involved in the design, implementation, management, performance, and safety of these intricate systems, ensuring effective and safe delivery of medical services.

This interdisciplinary degree program is a joint effort between the School of Computing and Digital Media (SCDM) and the School of Health Sciences (SHS). The course has been carefully designed to not only deepen students skills and knowledge but also to broaden their understanding. The programme gives students the ability to develop and adapt to new technologies and meet the needs of industry, by being aware of the professional and ethical responsibilities of engineers. We believe that this approach will equip students ideally for success and employability in the biomedical engineering sector.

A professional Biomedical Engineer needs a strong foundation in engineering principles and their application in the biomedical field. This degree program develops expertise in electronic systems, microprocessors, embedded systems, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, sensors, actuators, programming, artificial intelligence, security, and human movement analysis. These skills are honed through design projects during the degree, including the final year BEng project. Students will have the opportunity to gain work experience. Moreover, it will prepare students for ongoing personal development and the ability to tackle new and unique challenges, fostering versatility in problem-solving. Along with these technical skills, students will also gain a diverse range of transferable skills, including effective communication, leadership, the ability to critically assess gaps in target healthcare markets, and the tools required to provide solutions to bridge those gaps.
