The Foundation degree in Mechanical Engineering is a two-year degree offered by Belfast Metropolitan College in collaboration with Queens University Belfast. Students have the option of either seeking employment when they graduate, or transferring to Stage 2 of the BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering at Queens, where they can graduate with an Honours degree after a further two years of study. Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Successful completion of a relevant Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma (1080 Guided Learning Hours (GLH)), with grades MMP, with Merits required in four specified units, including Engineering Principles and Further Engineering Mathematics. Two other units will be specified at Merit.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

H3,H3,H4,H4

Including Higher Level Mathematics + one from Physics (preferred|), Biology or Chemistry. Joint Physics and Chemistry Higher Level is acceptable. If English and Physics are not offered at Higher Level a minimum of a grade 04 at Ordinary Level is required.

Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF)

Successful completion of a relevant Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma (180 credits), with grades MMP, with Merits required in four specified units, including Mathematics for Technicians and Further Mathematics for Technicians. Two other units will be specified at Merit.

Scottish Advanced Higher

Including Advanced Highers in Mathematics + one from Physics (preferred), Biology or Chemistry.

A level

Including A-level Mathematics + one from Physics (preferred), Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or Technology. A-level General Studies and Critical Thinking are normally excluded from offers. However, the grade achieved may be taken into account when results are published in August and may be used in a tie-break situation.
