With nearly 40 years of experience teaching broadcast engineering, Ravensbourne University London offers one of the UK’s most established broadcast engineering degrees. You will develop practical and technical skills across traditional and emerging broadcast technologies, including digital and satellite transmission, streaming, UHD, Dolby audio, virtual production and AI.
Aligned with industry standards, the course provides hands-on experience across the full audio-visual chain through studio and location work. Graduates leave with a BSc (Hons) in Broadcast Engineering, real-world project experience and strong industry connections.
Integrated Foundation Year
On the Integrated Foundation Year on this course, you will be first introduced to the fundamental principles of digital media. Your foundation year gives you the time, space and support to explore your strengths, build confidence and prepare for the demands of project-based, industry-focused learning. Modules are as follows:
Module 1: Diagnostic exploration - making informed choices
Module 2: Technical - Technical knowledge in practice
Module 3: Specialist - Innovating specialist practice
Module 4: Integration - Integrated practice for progression to Higher Education
After you have completed your Integrated Foundation Year, you will study the following:
Year 1
Year 1 introduces broadcast industry fundamentals, alongside core electronics and engineering principles to build a strong technical foundation.

• Introduction to Broadcast Technology
Year 2
Year 2 builds on your technical foundations, applying skills to increasingly ambitious projects. Explore the science of colour, live event broadcasting, computing, and event technology.

• Virtual Production Workflows
• Electronics
• Work Placement
• Live Studio and OB
• Fundamentals of Sound
Year 3
In your third year you will develop a final major project which could be a hardware prototype, a piece of equipment, or a piece of broadcast engineering software. Youll also delve into emerging technologies and industry standards to prepare for your future career.
