Whether analysing blood samples, examining tissues at a molecular level or investigating the spread of infectious diseases, biomedical scientists provide the evidence behind around 70% of NHS diagnoses.
If you're fascinated by biology and want to make a real-world impact, this is your opportunity to join a profession tackling some of the biggest health challenges facing society today. Our IBMS-accredited degree provides the academic foundation needed to progress towards professional registration as a Biomedical Scientist, without requiring additional academic qualifications after graduation.
From your first day, you'll become part of our scientific community. Rather than simply learning about Biomedical Science, you'll experience what it's like to work as a scientist through practical laboratory work, research projects and real-world investigations.
You could work with human cancer tissue, applying laboratory techniques used by researchers to understand disease and assess potential treatments. This hands-on experience gives you valuable insight into the work of professional cancer scientists.
You may also investigate microorganisms such as *E. coli* or explore how probiotics influence human health. Throughout your studies, you'll contribute to genuine scientific enquiry, developing the analytical, laboratory and problem-solving skills sought by employers across the life sciences sector.
Our partnerships with around 30 NHS Trusts across England provide strong links with healthcare professionals and employers, ensuring your learning reflects current practice, workforce needs and emerging developments in biomedical science.
While many graduates pursue careers as Biomedical Scientists, the broad biological, laboratory and research skills developed on the course also prepare you for opportunities across healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, public health and scientific research.
On successful completion of your study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science.
