Our Nursing (Child) BSc (Hons) is an NMC approved, HEIW commissioned, fulltime three-year degree designed to prepare you for registration as a professional children’s nurse in one of the four fields of nursing practice.

Grounded in the philosophy of person centred, evidence based, and values driven care, the programme emphasises compassion, inclusivity, and partnership with people, families, and communities. We aim to develop reflective, accountable practitioners who can respond to the complex and changing health needs of society, and contribute to improving health outcomes in Wales, the UK, and internationally.

Over the course of this degree, you will learn about the holistic health and wellbeing needs of children, young people, and their families.

Through a mix of academic study and practical clinical experience, you will develop the professional skills required to deliver high quality, evidence-based child nursing care and health protection measures in a range of clinical and community settings. You will often work as part of a multidisciplinary team across both the health and social care sectors.

Half of the programme takes place at the University and the other half in healthcare settings. Thanks to our strong partnerships with healthcare providers across southwest Wales, you will have access to a diverse range of clinical learning environments. These include placements in the NHS and independent sector, in both hospital and community settings.

Students are supported to achieve the NMC (2018) Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses, with programme outcomes mapped to the four pillars of nursing practice: clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. By graduation, you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional values to deliver safe, effective, holistic care, advocate for service users, and work collaboratively within multiprofessional teams.

Our nursing programme is purposefully designed to develop safe, effective, compassionate nurses who are prepared for the realities of modern, multidisciplinary healthcare environments.

You will have access to our excellent facilities, including a realistic clinical suite at our state-of-the-art Simulation and Immersive Learning Centre (SUSIM). This unique facility means you have the ability to practice key skills and teamwork in a variety of simulated real-life scenarios.
