Outdoor Coaching and Leadership

This foundation degree is designed to support the development of coaches and leaders working within the outdoor and adventure industry. Delivered over two years on a full-time basis, the programme develops practical coaching skills alongside theoretical understanding to prepare learners for professional practice in a range of outdoor environments.

You will explore key topics relevant to outdoor coaching and leadership, including coaching theory, sports science, and contemporary approaches such as adventure therapy. Learning is applied across a variety of outdoor disciplines, including paddlesport, climbing, navigation, and mountain biking. The course encourages reflective practice, critical evaluation, and the application of research-informed approaches. Study also supports progression through National Governing Body (NGB) awards and ongoing professional development within the outdoor sector.

Successful completion supports progression into employment, further qualifications, or degree-level study.
