Tattoo, drag, transhumanism, performance – studied together for the first time.

If youve ever felt like your alternative interests don’t fit with a traditional university course, this one was built for you. Body Art at UCA is the UKs first degree dedicated to the kinds of art – tattoo, drag, body modification, cosmetic enhancement, performance art – that has been, until now, on the sidelines.

You’ll study the history, culture, and application of every form of body art – learning from legends and seeing first-hand how they shape subcultures and societies. You’ll get hands-on with transhumanism, body painting, and even tattooing – finding your own voice and developing your style in whichever discipline speaks to you most.

We’re opening up and honouring the subject of body art; creating a safe, supported space for you to express any and every creative instinct you have. The weird and the wonderful, the raw and the refined – wherever your instincts take you, we’ll help you turn your passions into a sustainable, creative profession.

We consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios as well as their grades and we therefore may make offers which are lower than our standard entry criteria of 112 tariff points. This may be to students who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results - in these cases, a strong portfolio is especially important. We regularly admit students with a tariff much higher than our standard 112 requirement, and applicants who show potential but aren’t quite at the stage to be able to succeed on the course are offered a 4 year degree with an integrated foundation year which has a standard entry requirement of 32 tariff points.
