This Foundation Year in Archaeology is designed to prepare you for degree-level study in archaeology and related disciplines. It provides a supportive entry point if you do not yet meet the requirements for direct entry onto a degree, or if you are returning to study.<br/><br/>During the year, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand how people, places and environments are studied across time. You will explore key ideas from the social sciences and begin to consider how evidence is used to understand past societies and human activity.<br/><br/>You will build a strong foundation in the social sciences while developing essential academic and professional skills such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork and independent learning. Through project work and practical activities, you will begin to explore real-world questions and develop your skills in research, analysis and problem-solving.<br/><br/>The programme offers a broad introduction to the study of people and the past, providing a strong foundation for progression onto an archaeology degree, where you will develop more specialised knowledge and practical skills.<br/><br/>The Foundation Year uses a range of teaching methods to support your transition to university-level study. You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and interactive activities, where you will explore key concepts and apply your learning to real-world questions.<br/><br/>You will study core topics that introduce you to the social sciences, alongside modules designed to develop your academic and professional skills. Teaching is structured to help you build confidence in understanding how evidence is used to explore people, places and environments, and how knowledge about the past is constructed.<br/><br/>Throughout the year, there is a strong emphasis on developing your academic skills and preparing you for degree-level study.
