**Course Overview**<br/><br/>Do you want to make a difference? Our BA (Hons) Social Work foundation year will provide you with a strong knowledge base and develop key skills required for social care roles.<br/><br/>Your foundation year is designed to support your progression onto the BA (Hons) Social Work degree. It will help you develop the academic skills and confidence you need to succeed at university, while introducing key areas of social care and social work practice.<br/><br/>Youll study a range of engaging topics as you develop your academic writing and study skills. Through hands-on learning and reflective practice, you’ll explore how to work effectively with individuals, families and groups in a range of settings. You’ll also be introduced to community-focused approaches that recognise and build on the strengths and assets present within communities.<br/><br/>By the end of the year, you’ll be ready to take the next step in your social work journey towards making a real difference in people’s lives.<br/><br/>After passing your foundation year, you will be able to enrol onto our BA (Hons) Social Work degree if you have met the entry requirements. This will enable you to apply for professional registration with Social Work England upon graduation.<br/><br/>You can progress onto the first year of our BA (Hons) Social Work if you meet the entry requirements. This includes passing the Foundation Year with an overall average of 50% or more per module, a successful interview, and satisfactory DBS and Fitness to Practice checks.<br/><br/>If you dont meet this criteria, you may be able to transfer onto an alternative degree programme. This includes:<br/><br/>BA (Hons) Applied Community and Social Care Studies<br/>BA (Hons) International Social Work and Community Development (This does not qualify you to register as a social worker in the UK)<br/>BA (Hons) Children Schools and Family (Graduate Practitioner)<br/>BA (Hons) Youth and Community Practice<br/><br/>**Why Study with us**<br/><br/><br/>- Youll be taught by an experienced course team from a range of backgrounds, including Social Work and Community Practice.<br/><br/><br/>- Learn in a highly practical environment, with interactive lectures and seminars taking place in-person on campus two days a week.<br/><br/><br/>- Develop digital learning skills that will allow you to work and study in an increasingly digitised world.<br/><br/><br/>**What youll do** <br/><br/><br/>- Youll learn in an interactive and nurturing environment, engaging in lectures and seminars. Your learning will be enriched with guest speaker talks and conferences.<br/><br/><br/>- Youll learn about key social issues, as well as social care practice. This will equip you with both the knowledge and skills youll need for a range of careers.<br/><br/><br/>- You will develop your confidence as a student and the ability to participate in wider university activities.<br/><br/><br/>**Future Careers** <br/><br/>If you successfully complete the programme, you will have a range of opportunities in the health and social care field dependent on your choice of degree. If you complete your BA (Hons) Social Work degree, you will be able to apply to register as a social worker with Social Work England.<br/><br/>You could become a:<br/><br/><br/>- Children’s social worker<br/><br/><br/>- Adult social worker<br/><br/><br/>- Mental health/learning disabilities social worker<br/><br/><br/>- Private sector social worker<br/>
