The BSc Economics and FinTech programme will provide learners with a critical and contemporary understanding of economic theory, financial systems and emerging technologies within the context of the global financial sector. The programme will start by providing learners with a strong foundation of understanding in both microeconomics and macroeconomics, giving learners a fundamental understanding of how organisations, markets and government interact at both national and international level. Critically, this grounding will be delivered alongside key principles of fintech, seeking to examine modern technology within the context of financial services as data driven applications.
The second stage of the programme will see the students deepen and develop their theoretical and technical understanding through the analysis of well-established microeconomics and macroeconomics at the intermediate level. A key feature of the programme at this point is the introduction of econometrics as tool for learners to use to analyse economic, financial and policy issues in order to develop robust evaluations.
The final stage of the programme will see the learners integrate and apply their learning and development on the programme through studying the advanced modules in economics, fintech and data-analysis. This culminates in the dissertation element of the programme, challenging the learners on the programme to undertake an independent research project on a contemporary economics and fintech related module. This module will present additional and practical challenges around project management, methodology and data analysis.
An important feature of the BSc Economics and FinTech programme is the emphasis on professional development and employability, with learning materials and assessments geared to facilitating learners to reflect on and develop their skills and knowledge. Critically, the work-based learning module (delivered in year two) provides learners with an opportunity to apply, reflect and further develop these skills. Additionally, the programme offers optional modules such managing people and language, giving learners an opportunity to develop their broader commercial skills.
