Overview
Youll join a small cohort of enthusiastic and motivated students working together to gain the academic knowledge and skills needed to progress onto our five-year medical degree. The Gateway Year team will work hard to support you and ensure that you feel like a medical student from day one. Youll develop your professional identity, and the skills needed to succeed as a medical student, through dedicated modules delivered within the Medical School. The Gateway Year offers opportunities for clinical shadowing and clinical experiences with local health care providers including the NHS. Youll be well supported through regular sessions with your academic advisor.

The Medicine with a Gateway Year programme maps to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We encourage students to be curious and invest in the world around them and to be agents for positive change within the medical school and the medical profession.

Upon successful completion of the Gateway Year, youll progress to the five-year MBBS Medicine degree. This programme is structured into modules based on body systems. Norwich Medical School is committed to producing well-rounded medical graduates, and youll study the foundational biological, social, and clinical sciences of medicine. Youll then apply this knowledge in practise through placements in hospitals and general practices.

Youll continue to work in small groups during the MB BS course, using problem-based learning (PBL) techniques to apply your learning to virtual scenarios. Alongside this, you receive teaching in primary care, where youll meet patients, bringing these scenarios to life. Opportunities for practical, hands-on learning will be available in both simulated and real healthcare environments. Youll further refine your skills through dissections, clinical training, and communication skills teaching. Your learning will be supported by a weekly schedule of lectures and seminars, supplemented by attachments in secondary care hospitals, some of which may require residential stays.

For details on the subsequent years of the programme, please refer to the full MBBS Medicine course profile.

Disclaimer

Course details are subject to change.
