About this course<br/>Become a nurse with MNurs Nursing (Child and Mental Health) at the University of Southampton, a course ranked 3rd in the UK and 13th in the world (QS World Rankings by Subject 2026), to shape the future of healthcare and be there when it matters.<br/><br/>On your four-year integrated masters in Child and Mental Health Nursing, you’ll develop the skills you need to provide compassionate, family-centred care that makes a real difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families. <br/><br/>You’ll be prepared to work in settings that address both physical and mental health challenges, gaining experience through an extensive range of placements in child health and mental health settings across the lifespan, through simulated practice in our specialist facilities, and through clinical skills teaching from experienced nurses who are also world-class educators and practitioners.<br/><br/>Key features of the course:<br/>• Develop skills in assessment, decision making and managing complexity across a range of healthcare environments, and understand the nature of health needs within a global context<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Build a deeper understanding of parity of esteem, recognising the equal importance of mental and physical health in supporting the wellbeing of children and young people.<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Prepare for a future nursing leadership role in clinical or academic settings<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Join a supportive community of nursing students and academics who can assist you at every stage of your journey, from student to Nurse<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Graduate from this course with the opportunity to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse (Child) and Registered Nurse (Mental Health)<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Learn from experienced registered nurses and train in our modern facilities, as well as through placements in various healthcare settings across both disciplines.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Student support<br/>Youll be supported from day one, both during your time studying on campus and during your placements, by your personal support network of academics: your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), a senior tutor, and by your fellow students via initiatives like the Schwartz Rounds designed to support health-care staff to deliver compassionate care by helping them to reflect on their work in groups of peers.<br/><br/>Further information<br/>Youll graduate from this course with the opportunity to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse (Child) and Registered Nurse (Mental Health).<br/><br/>The NHS Learning Support Fund may assist your journey to becoming a registered healthcare professional. We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4.
Access to HE Diploma

Pass in a science or health based Access to HE with 60 credits overall, and with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3, of which 24 must be at Distinction and 21 credits at Merit.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Pass with 30 points overall with 15 points at Higher Level. International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP): The University of Southampton accepts the IBCP for entry to their degree programmes, recognising the value of combining academic skills with practical skills, providing a solid preparation for university level work. Offers will be made on the individual components of the IBCP. Applicants not taking the full IBCP but presenting with a combination of a Level 3 vocational qualification and IB Certificates may still be considered. Offers will be made on the individual Diploma Course subject(s) and the career-related study qualification. The CP core will not form part of the offer. Where there is a subject pre-requisite(s), applicants will be required to study the subject(s) at Higher Level in the Diploma course subject and/or take a specified unit in the career-related study qualification. Applicants may also be asked to achieve a specific grade in those elements.
