Summary \
Robotics engineering is about designing intelligent systems that move, adapt and act in the real world. From manufacturing and transport to healthcare and beyond, robotics is transforming how industries operate.
On this course, you will explore how mechanical engineering, electronics, computing and artificial intelligence come together to create autonomous systems. You will learn how to design, build and programme machines that can sense their environment, make decisions and respond in real time.
You will not just study theory. Through hands-on projects, simulations and practical work with real robotic systems, you will bring ideas to life and test how they perform beyond the lab.
As you progress, you will build a strong foundation in engineering and computing, before specialising in robotics, control and machine learning in your final year.
\
Key features of the course \
Build a strong foundation. Study core engineering and computing topics before specialising in robotics and autonomous systems.
Learn through doing. Design, build and programme robotic systems through practical projects, simulations and real-world testing.
Shape your degree. Choose optional modules to explore areas such as robotics applications, machine learning and system design.
Access specialist facilities. Work with advanced robotics platforms, mobile systems with embedded sensing and tools for simulation and control.
Gain real-world experience. Take an optional Industrial Placement Year in an engineering organisation, developing professional skills and industry insight.
Student support \
Your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) will support you throughout your studies, helping you shape your academic pathway and offering guidance on your development and career goals.
You will be part of a collaborative learning environment, working with students and staff focused on robotics and intelligent systems.
\
Further information \
You will take part in project-based learning across your degree, developing systems such as autonomous robots, control algorithms and machine learning applications.
Graduates go on to roles in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence and advanced engineering across sectors including manufacturing, healthcare and transport.

Entry Requirements
A level
AAB including mathematics (minimum grade A) and one further science. The following are considered to be an acceptable science subject: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Psychology, Statistics, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography and Geology. Offers typically exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking. If you are taking an EPQ in addition to 3 A levels, you will receive the following offer in addition to the standard A level offer: ABB including mathematics (minimum grade A) and one further science (minimum grade B), plus grade A in the EPQ We are committed to ensuring that all applicants with the potential to succeed, regardless of their background, are encouraged to apply to study with us. The additional information gained through contextual data allows us to recognise an applicant's potential to succeed in the context of their background and experience. Applicants who are highlighted in this way will be made an offer which is lower than the typical offer for that programme as follows: ABC including mathematics (minimum grade A) and one further science (minimum grade B). Applicants who have not studied the required subjects at A-level can apply for the Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Foundation Year.
UCAS Tariff
Not accepted
Access to HE Diploma
Not accepted
GCSE/National 4/National 5
Applicants must hold GCSE English language (or GCSE English) (minimum grade 4/C) and mathematics (minimum grade 4/C)
Scottish Advanced Higher
Offers will be based on exams being taken at the end of S6. Subjects taken and qualifications achieved in S5 will be reviewed. Careful consideration will be given to an individual’s academic achievement, taking in to account the context and circumstances of their pre-university education. Please see the University of Southampton’s Curriculum for Excellence Scotland Statement for further information. Applicants are advised to contact their Faculty Admissions Office for more information.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
Not accepted
Scottish Higher
We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4" We are committed to ensuring that all learners with the potential to succeed, regardless of their background, are encouraged to apply to study with us. The additional information gained through contextual data allows us to recognise a learner's potential to succeed in the context of their background and experience. Applicants who are highlighted in this way will be made an offer which is lower than the typical offer for that programme.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Pass, with 34 points overall with 17 points at Higher Level, including 6 at Higher Level in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) or 7 at Higher Level in Mathematics (Applications and Interpretation) and one further science. The following are considered to be an acceptable science subject: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Psychology, Environmental Systems and Societies, and Geography. We are committed to ensuring that all learners with the potential to succeed, regardless of their background, are encouraged to apply to study with us. The additional information gained through contextual data allows us to recognise a learner’s potential to succeed in the context of their background and experience. Applicants who are highlighted in this way will be made an offer which is lower than the typical offer for that programme. International Baccalaureate Career Programme (IBCP) offer Offers will be made on the individual Diploma Course subject(s) and the career-related study qualification. The CP core will not form part of the offer. Where there is a subject pre-requisite(s), applicants will be required to study the subject(s) at Higher Level in the Diploma course subject and/or take a specified unit in the career-related study qualification. Applicants may also be asked to achieve a specific grade in those elements. Please see the University of Southampton International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) Statement for further information. Applicants are advised to contact their Faculty Admissions Office for more information.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
D3 D3 M2 in three Principal subjects including mathematics (minimum grade D3) and one further science. Cambridge Pre-U's can be used in combination with other qualifications such as A levels to achieve the equivalent of the typical offer, where D2 can be used in lieu of A-level grade A* or grade D3 can be used in lieu of A-level grade A.
Extended Project
If you are taking an EPQ in addition to 3 A levels, you will receive the following offer in addition to the standard A level offer: ABB including mathematics (minimum grade A) and one further science., plus grade A in the EPQ. Offers typically exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking. Applicants who have not studied the required subjects at A-level can apply for the Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Foundation Year.
