The course adopts a spiralling approach and will build upon your knowledge and understanding, professional skills, values, capabilities, and transferable skills as you progress through the course. Your time is split equally between learning theory on campus and applying your knowledge during placements alongside experienced professionals.
The importance of developing strategies for self-care and emotional agility are important components threaded throughout the course and we are committed to providing a value driven, safe and supportive learning environment with a strong pastoral and nurturing environment, equipping you with the foundations to thrive and innovate within modern healthcare systems.
You will learn in our new midwifery simulation lab, including birthing pool, with access to a variety of clinical equipment to support practice simulation, preparing you for the variety of placement experiences. Work placements within maternity units of NHS Trusts are a core part of this course and account for approximately 50% of the programme. You will have opportunity to experience working across the whole continuum of care within maternity and reproductive health care settings, and be supported in placement by practice supervisors and assessors as well as University of Winchester based link lecturers.
You will learn from our supportive and accessible lecturers who have expert experience of working in a wide range of maternity and academic services. Throughout your studies, you'll also hear from a diverse range of experts, including specialist, clinical midwives from the local region and individuals with lived healthcare experience, providing you with up-to-date insight into this rewarding profession.\

The University of Winchester is an Approved Education Institution (AEI) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). On successful completion of this 3‐year Midwifery programme you will be eligible to apply for admission as a Registered Midwife to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
